BIOGRAPHY (ENG)

Moritz Renner, born in Munich in 2001, began his musical education at an early age. He took piano lessons at the age of 8. At the age of 13, he took his first trombone lessons with Christofer Varner at the Pestalozzi Gymnasium in Munich. There he gained his first combo and big band experience. At the age of 15, he joined the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra (“Railtracks” 2019).

 

After graduating from high school in 2019, he completed a bachelor's degree in jazz trombone at the renowned Jazzcampus in Basel with Professor Adrian Mears. This was followed by a master's degree in jazz composition with Professor Guillermo Klein, which he completed in 2024.

 

Moritz Renner was also a member of the Bundesjazzorchester (BuJazzO) from 2020 to 2023. 

 

Moritz Renner is a winner of the prestigious “BMW Young Artist Jazz Award 2024” and won the “Förderpreis des Bayerischen Jazzverbands 2023” and the “Biberacher Jazzpreis 2024” with his trio “RENNER”. In addition, Renner was awarded the “Music Scholarship of the City of Munich 2024” as a composer and musician and received the soloist prize at the “Young Munich Jazz Award 2024”.

 

In addition to his activities as co-leader of “RENNER” and bandleader of “Moritz Renner Group” (“A Given Meaning” 2022) and “Moritz Renner Jazz Orchestra”, he also plays in the Jazzrausch Bigband (ACT Music) and other small and large formations.
